On 30th March my friend Beth and I went to a gig to see All Time Low perform!
Our closest city is Norwich (UK), so we went to Norwich UEA LCR to see them. We haven’t been to a gig since we were in our teens; we are both in our mid-twenties now. This was our second time seeing them- the first time was 7 years ago back in 2010! Take a look below to see a picture of our younger selves! In case you don’t know who All Time Low are, they are a rock band from the US, they formed in 2003.
I decided to do a little post on it to remind me of the experience, and so you can tell me about any gigs/concerts you have been to!
Beth is on Twitter, follow her HERE!
When I lived with my parents my friend Beth lived 5 miles away from me. But, when I moved in with my boyfriend in 2014 I moved 30 miles away. So, to make things easier she came over to mine in the morning so we could go to the gig together. We chilled out in the morning and headed off to Norwich at 2 pm.
We knew it was going to be a late one, so we decided to book a hotel room in advance so we could stay overnight and make a little trip out of it. We arrived at the Nelson City Centre Premier Inn approximately at 2:30. We thought we were going to have lots of time to chill, but we didn’t! I bought my laptop to do some work, and Beth brought her notebooks to do some writing, but we didn’t have time in the end!
By the time I had finished faffing around with my make up it was 4 pm!We left the hotel at half past and arrived at 5. It was supposed to be a 10-minute drive, but the roads were very busy. The doors didn’t open until 7, so we had to queue for 2 hours. We went that early so we could get a good base for the night.
Before we arrived, we kept joking that we would be the oldest ones there. It turns out we were, apart from the Mum’s who were accompanying their teenagers!
When 7 pm finally rolled around (luckily it was a sunny day), we entered the venue! Upon entering, we noticed there was a lot of security compared to our teenage gigging days. Naturally, we made a beeline straight to the loos! After that, Beth went to the merchandise stand before it got too busy; she purchased a hoody, which later came in very handy!
I didn’t want to me in amongst the crowd so we stood around the outside on a little raised platform.
All Time Low had 2 support bands: Waterparks and SWMRS- they each performed for half an hour. Waterparks were good, but we enjoyed SWMRS the most; we have been listening to their music since the gig!
All Time Low was on stage for around an hour; they played a mix of their old songs and new songs. At one point they commented that they haven’t performed in Norwich for 7 years…we were like, we were there! We both enjoyed the show very much; the time went so fast despite having very achy legs (we’re not 16 anymore after all! haha).
I forgot to charge my camera battery, so I had to steal some of Beth’s pictures…
The show ended at 11, but did we head back to the hotel…nope! We wanted to meet them after the show so we could get some pictures. We waited and waited, but they didn’t come out to greet their fans, unfortunately. They did a ‘meet and greet’ before the show, but you had to have special tickets (cost more money!), so I guess that’s why they didn’t come out. Some members of the support bands came out, though. It was cold waiting outside, so Beth put her new All Time Low hoody on, and I wore the one she brought from home.
It was 2 am by the time we got back to the hotel room. We were very tired and had very achy feet and bad backs (note to self: don’t wear heeled boots next time!). I go to bed at 10, so that was a very late night for me!
I slept like a log that night (always do anyway!). In the morning, we got ourselves ready and packed up our belongings ready for checkout time. We agreed to have breakfast in the hotel…it was a buffet breakfast, my favourite! I had so much to eat I had to skip lunch! Finally, we went into Norwich to do a little bit of shopping before heading home.
All in all, we had a great time, it was nice to something a little different for a change!
