Blog Survey Results

One day, I was wondering lots of different things about blogging and wondered if I was on the same page as everyone else. I came up with the idea to put together a little 10 question survey to find out about your blogging experience in relation to mine. If you missed that post, you can find it here and still join in if you like.

Question 1: On average, how many hours a day do you spend on your blog during the week? (including anything blog related like social media)

There are lots of varied answers for this question, but I’d say most people spend 3-4 hours a day doing blog related work (time spent in the evening?).

Question 2: On average, how many hours a day do you spend on your blog at the weekend? (including anything blog related like social media)

Some people don’t spend much time at all on their blog at the weekend because they are busy doing other things. On the other hand, some people are too busy during the week with work commitments, so they do lots of blogging at the weekend.

Question 3: Daily, how much time do you spend reading other people’s blogs?

Almost everyone said they read blogs for around an hour a day. That is good because you can read quite a lot in one hour- just shows how supportive everyone is. Some people said they would like to read more if they had more time.

Question 4: How often do you leave comments on other people’s posts?

Some people said if someone is a regular commenter on their blog then they feel compelled to reciprocate this (I find myself doing this as well). Generally, people will leave a comment if they have a question about your post, or if the post has helped them in some way.

Question 5: How many blogs do you follow?

Some people don’t follow many, some people follow lots and lots! But I’d say most people follow between 100-300 other blogs.

Question 6: How often do you post on your blog?

Everyone appears to be keeping themselves very busy, there are quite a lot of daily bloggers around here! But most people tend to post 2 or 3 times a week.

Question 7: What social media accounts do you have to go alongside your blog?

The most popular social media accounts are of course Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook. A few people have social media accounts like Tumblr, G+, StumbleUpon, Linkedin and Flipboard.

Question 8: Do you have a posting schedule? How do you plan out your posts?

I plan my posts out for the month coming so I feel organised and in control: I thought other people would do this as well, but I’m in the minority here! Most people have a relaxed approach in regards to when they post with a loose schedule. Some people have notebooks where they write blog post ideas down.

Question 9: What do you use to take pictures: phone camera? basic point-and-shoot camera? DSLR camera?

I thought DSLR cameras were going to be the most popular camera to use, but phone cameras are! I think this is because phone cameras are so good now, and it’s easy to edit pictures using apps (filter, anyone?). A few people said they are saving up for a DSLR. Not many people use point and shoot camera’s, this might because phone cameras are just as good, if not better.

Question 10: How do you promote your blog?

The most popular way people promote their blogs is by using Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Some people use Pinterest, but I think there is still some confusion about how it can be beneficial. People use Twitter to tweet their latest posts and to interact with fellow bloggers. Lots of people have a Facebook page for their blog; people also join in with blog groups (like mine Blogs In Bloom).

Final Reflection

I’m not surprised by the results to be honest, they just go to show how much time, effort and love people put into their blogs. I enjoyed doing this survey and liked reading everyone’s answers, so thank you to everyone who took part!

Do you agree with the results? Has anything surprised you?

  1. I must have missed your original post about this, but it was interesting to read what you found out. I’m with you in the minority re question 8. I have a spreadsheet with dates and ideas till the end of the year – it’s ok to move things if something more pressing comes up, but at least I’m not going to run out of ideas lol! I think that’s because I used to do our staff magazine at work and we had to have an editorial calendar, so I just kept the idea going from there. Thanks for sharing the results πŸ™‚

  2. I’m surprised on the photos actually…. Would have thought people took more on a camera than on a phone…. Great idea really informative. Glad I’m averaging out on my input to my own blog in comparison. How many people took part? xx

  3. Quite a few of these answers seriously suprised me – guess I’m in the minority with you! But I love surveys like this, because blogging can feel really confusing and – at times – lonely. It’s nice to empathise with others, and know you’re not alone!

  4. Ahh these results are really interesting! I definitely wish I had more time to spend on blogging than around 3 hours per day, and will put in a bit more when I have less external commitments. Really liked this post idea, thanks for sharing it with us πŸ™‚ always fun to learn more about the blogging community xox

  5. This was a great idea and I think that I would agree with most of the survey. I have a really relaxed approach and never plan my blog schedule. I do spend hours working on it though. I find that time just flies by and I never seem to have enough. Like if I read through blog posts, I struggle to catch up on Instagram etc.

  6. It’s lovely to see that bloggers genuinely follow each other and spend time reading other blogs. I really enjoy taking time to catch up with everyone, and it’s a good way to build friendships too x
