Following on from my ‘January Sales Shopping List‘ post, I thought I would share with you what I actually purchased in the end. Like I’ve said before, this is the one time of year when I like to treat myself to the things I have been holding back on purchasing throughout the year.
Before the sales started, I decided to write a list of the things I would like to purchase so I could set myself a budget- this worked well because I pretty much stuck to my list. I spent a bit more than expected, but I am very happy with everything I got.
Here is an overview of what I purchased from my shopping list:
I really wanted to pick up a pair of black skinny jeans from Jack Wills to replace my fading ones, but the ones I wanted weren’t on sale this time, unfortunately. I managed to resist the half-price Yankee Candles because I already have too many of them! I didn’t buy a new leather bag in the end; I just decided against it to cap my spending. I got a 2018 diary, but I purchased it not in the sale.
What did you buy in the post-Christmas sales? I’d love to know!
I will start with my favourite item first: my new camera. Ever since I was in my early teens I have always been into cameras; I feel like I have been pathing the way to this moment, finally. I can’t remember how many different point and shoot cameras I’ve had before wishing it was a DSLR instead. Well, I finally took the plunge and bought this rather delightful Canon M3 mirrorless camera. In a nutshell, it is a DSLR that has been designed to be more compact. Even when I’m not taking pictures, there’s not one day that I’m not playing around with it- let’s just say we’re getting acquainted! I can’t wait to take better pictures and take my camera on lots of adventures!
Yes, I am a little bit obsessed with bath bombs and just baths in general! It’s a bit late now, but in case you didn’t know, Lush have a one-off half-price sale on boxing day. The sale continues as long as there is stock left (only a couple of days). I love being able to snatch up those half-price bombs! I didn’t fancy getting one of the gift sets because there’s always something in them I wouldn’t use. My local Lush in Norwich didn’t have much stock left in the sale, but I had more luck in Cambridge when I visited a couple of days later.
A lesser known brand of bath bombs is Bomb Cosmetics. I have known about Bomb Cosmetics for a long time, and I love their products- I even did a post about them here. Their products and handmade, natural and they are super affordable. Post-Christmas, they sell their festive bombs half-price for £1.50- bargain! I bought 5 of their cracker gift sets (3 bombs in each), and a few individual ones.
I also bought a little trio set of bath bombs from Superdrug for £1.00, and 2 tubes of bath ‘crystals’ and ‘caviar’ for 50p each. Phew- that lot will keep me going!
I’ve had the same old Real Techniques makeup brushes for years now; I desperately needed some new ones. So I was glad when I managed to pick this set up for half-price in Superdrug- I also used up the points I had on my loyalty card so I got it for even cheaper (£14 final price for me). I have recently started using a Real Techniques Beauty Blender, so I was happy to see one in this set to have as a spare. There is also a large bronzer brush, a fluffy contour brush, 3 handy eyeshadow brushes and another little sponge.
Just look at all of these liquid lipsticks- gorgeous! It was a bit of a gamble buying this set of 30 NYX liquid lipsticks because I have never tried them before! The gamble paid off though because the colours are fab, and the formula works well for me. I won’t say too much about them; I will do a blog post about them soon- watch this space! I purchased the set for £32.50 (original price £65.00).
This little eye makeup kit by Soap & Glory was such a bargain! Boots always has a wide range of Christmas gifts; everything is reduced to half-price after Christmas. The set includes a liquid eyeliner, a brow pencil, a mascara and an eyeshadow stick. The original selling price was £18, so I got it for £9. I have only tried out the liquid eyeliner so far- I am VERY impressed with it! I’m sure I will do a blog post about this set as well.
I know jewellery isn’t clothing, but you know, it had to slot in somewhere. My Pandora bracelet is slowly filling up; I only treat myself to a new charm when there is a sale on. I collect the two-tone gold and silver charms for my bracelet, so they cost more than just the silver ones. My first new addition is a heart-shaped dangle charm that is encrusted with Cubic Zirconia on the silver part. I also got a lovely little floral openwork charm.
I try not to buy too many clothes now because I think it’s a waste having so many. I recently got rid of some jumpers that I had for years, so I was in the market for a new one. As much as I love striped and patterned jumpers, I need some plain neutral coloured ones. I immediately spotted this simple grey jumper in M&S that has hand embellished clusters of beads and sequins on it- perfect! The second item of clothing I got was a long-sleeved black and white polka dot top from Fat Face. The jumper was £19.50 and the top was £15.00.
I can’t even remember the last time I wore any sort of hat! I find it hard to find ones that fit my pea-sized head, and I’m never truly sure if they truly suit me or not. However, I found these two bobble hats in Superdrug for 99p each, so I definitely couldn’t turn them down. They are warm, they fit my head, and I think they even suit me- win, win, win!
