I am coming at you today with a makeup post as I haven’t done one for a while (or any blog posts for that matter!). I have a fairly small makeup collection, so the makeup featured here equates to about 70% of everything I own. I like to use one product up at a time, so this really helps to keep my makeup to a minimum.
When I find a makeup product that I like a lot, I repurchase it so much. So I would like to share with you all of the makeup products I love and recommend to you!
It really does make all the difference to your lashes when you curl them, especially if you have short straight lashes like me. I wear liquid eyeliner quite a lot, but I’m don’t curl my lashes when I’m wearing liquid eyeliner because the eyeliner sticks to the curler sometimes (have you got any tips on how to avoid this?). I have tried lots of different eyelash curlers before, but these gold coloured ones from NO7 are my favourite.
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
Like always, I’m late to jump on board with trends; these sponges being one of those trends! I don’t wear foundation very often, so I was never excited to try one out. Previously, I used a Real Techniques brush to apply my foundation (probably wasn’t even meant for foundation!); it did an alright job, at least at the time I thought so. I finally bought myself a sponge from Superdrug when they were reduced in price- I haven’t looked back since! It applies my foundation flawlessly, and in record time.
I know there are so many different brands of makeup brushes out there, but I don’t stray far from Real Techniques brushes. I picked up a limited edition set in the sale recently (post here), which I have been enjoying a lot because the set includes a few brushes I haven’t tried out before. I also like to use brushes by B. (they are a Superdrug brand), such as blush and powder brushes. If you’re a bit of a novice like me, then I very much recommend both brands of brushes to you for everyday convenience and ease!
Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer
I don’t actually use a primer underneath my foundation, but I do wear it underneath a powder during the week when I am at work. For this reason, I haven’t tested it underneath a foundation, but it works well paired with a powder. It helps your skin out by smoothing, resurfacing, brightening, mattifying and protecting it. I have bought countless tubes of this stuff in the past, and I will continue to use it for as long as they sell it. I have tried Rimmel’s other primers, but none of them can beat this one!
Gosh X-Ceptional Wear Foundation
I have what you’d call ‘normal’ skin, meaning I don’t suffer from oily or dry skin, and I don’t get many blemishes. Due to this, I feel like I don’t need a heavy foundation as I only have a little bit of redness to disguise. You will notice that a concealer doesn’t feature in this post because I don’t use it. I have VERY fair skin, so I find it difficult to find a foundation pale enough for me. However, this foundation in shade ‘Natural 12’ is perfect for me (tip: there is also a lighter shade called ‘Porcelain 11’).
Benefit Blusher & Bronzer Palette
I have always been a fan of Benefit’s blushers and bronzers, so I bought this perfect palette so I can have them all in one place. I’ve had this palette for almost 2 years now and I’m only just now beginning to hit pan with it. I use all of the shades apart from the dark bronzer in the left-hand corner. This palette is still available, but it includes different shades of blushers and bronzers now. I find that all the colours are very pigmented, so you only need to apply a little bit, and they blend out nicely as well.
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder
I feel like everyone must’ve tried this out at some point- it really is a foolproof powder! I use this powder most days, whether it’s over a foundation, or just over a primer. It is a translucent powder, so it is suitable for everyone. If you like a matte finish to your makeup look, this powder is the perfect product to use to achieve this.
Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighter
I remember when highlighters first became popular, I stayed away from them because I wasn’t entirely sure how to wear it correctly! Since giving highlighter a go, I discovered that my favourite is this Too Faced Candlelight Glow one. I only have a small sample sized one here, but it contains plenty of product. The products contain 2 different colours- a pinky shade and a champagne shade. I really like this highlighter duo because it creates a subtle glow on my skin; I get lots of compliments when I am wearing it.
Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette
My go-to eyeshadow palette has to be this Too Faced Natural Eyes one. No offence to anyone, but I don’t see the point of having so many different eyeshadow palettes- they are expensive as well! This palette is perfect for me as it contains a mixture of fairly neutral matte and shimmer shades. There is scope to create day and night makeup looks. I’m not very good at applying eyeshadow, but this palette makes it a breeze.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
I think my favourite mascara is Roller Lash by Benefit, but I haven’t got one in my stash at the moment to show you. In my opinion, the Maybelline Lash Sensational is quite similar to Roller Lash in regards to how it makes my lashes look. I struggle to find a mascara that works well for me because my lashes are quite sparse and short, so when I find a good’un, I repurchase it a lot! The mascara comes in a few different variations of colours, and there is a waterproof option as well. I really like the fan-shaped brush because it is plastic and quite flexible.
Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Pencil
I am definitely a novice when it comes to my eyebrows; I still don’t know which products are best for my brows! As a safe option, I like to use an eyebrow pencil. My favourite brow pencil is this Rimmel Brow This way one. I like that the pencil tip is hard so it is easy to apply strokes that look like individual hairs. The pencil has tiny fibres in it so you can add a bit of texture to your brows. I also like that it sharpens well so the nib doesn’t break off.
Benefit Gimme Brow Eyebrow Gel
I first tried this eyebrow gel out when it was first released; I received a free sample of it in a magazine. I loved it straight away, so I bought a load more magazines because the sample was worth more than the magazine! I’m sad to say that I ran out of samples, and I have had to buy a couple of the full-sized products. I like this gel because it works well with an eyebrow pencil; it sets the brow nicely and adds definition.
NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks
I was going to say, I don’t have many lip products, but that would be a lie! What I mean to say is, I have a lot of the same product. I bought a NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick Vault a few months ago that includes a wide-range of 30 different shades. I didn’t have many to start off with, but since purchasing this, I have got rid of a lot of my other lip products as there are so many! The lipsticks come in mini size, so they are handy to take on the go with you, and you’re more likely to use one up before the formula dries up. I love these lipsticks because they are highly pigmented and long-lasting on your lips.
I hope you have enjoyed me sharing with you my must-have makeup items! In the comments below, let me know if you have tried any of these products before and what you think of them. Also, please feel free to recommend any products to me that you think I might like!
